Laravel Online Test

The Laravel online test uses scenario-based MCQ questions to evaluate a candidate's ability to build dynamic web apps using Laravel. The questions are designed to assess knowledge of working with Laravel fundamentals (routes, controllers, views), databases (connect, migrate, seed and query), and errors (identify, handle, and solve exceptions). The test uses MCQ and coding questions to evaluate hands-on PHP programming skills.

Applying Middleware to Resource Routes
Middleware
Routing
Solve
You are developing a Laravel application that has a PostController for managing blog posts. The routes for this controller are set up as a resource route in your web.php file:
 image
You have already created a middleware called EnsureAdminRole to restrict access to certain routes for admin users. Now, you want to apply this middleware to the create, edit, update, and delete routes for the PostController, but not the index or show routes.

Which of the following ways would correctly apply the EnsureAdminRole middleware to these routes?

Custom Rules
Solve
In your Laravel application, you are implementing a registration form where users enter their birthdate as a string in the 'Y-m-d' format. You want to ensure that only users aged 18 years or older can register. To achieve this, you decide to write a custom validation rule. Consider the following implementation of the custom rule and a function to handle the registration request:
 image
Which of the following code snippets correctly fills the passes method in the AgeRestriction class to ensure that only users aged 18 or older can register, given that the birthdate is a string in the 'Y-m-d' format?

Database Operations
Solve
Consider the following code snippet in a Laravel application:

Medium

Route Model Binding
Routing
Controllers
Eloquent
Solve
In your Laravel application, you're making use of route model binding to handle retrieving models based on the incoming request. You have a route defined as follows:
 image
In your PostController, the show method looks like this:
 image
Now, imagine that instead of using the ID, you want to retrieve posts by their 'slug' for SEO purposes. Which of the following changes should you make in order to achieve this?
A: Modify the route to Route::get('/posts/{slug}', 'PostController@show'); and change the show method to public function show($slug).
B: Modify the getRouteKeyName method in the Post model to return 'slug'.
C: Change the show method to public function show(Post $slug).
D: No changes are needed, Laravel will automatically use the 'slug' if it exists.

Medium

Service Container
Service Container
Dependency Injection
Solve
In a Laravel application, the Service Container is a powerful tool for managing class dependencies and performing dependency injection. You're building a payment feature and created an interface PaymentGatewayInterface and two concrete classes, StripePaymentGateway and PaypalPaymentGateway, which implement this interface.

The application should use StripePaymentGateway for users located in the US, and PaypalPaymentGateway for users located in Europe.

Which of the following approach would you use to register these bindings in the Service Container?
A: Use App::bind(PaymentGatewayInterface::class, StripePaymentGateway::class) for US users and App::bind(PaymentGatewayInterface::class, PaypalPaymentGateway::class) for European users.

B: Use App::singleton(PaymentGatewayInterface::class, StripePaymentGateway::class) for US users and App::singleton(PaymentGatewayInterface::class, PaypalPaymentGateway::class) for European users.

C: Use a conditional statement within the binding closure of App::bind to check the user's location and bind the appropriate concrete class.

D: Use App::instance(PaymentGatewayInterface::class, new StripePaymentGateway) for US users and App::instance(PaymentGatewayInterface::class, new PaypalPaymentGateway) for European users.

E: Use App::when('App\\Http\\Controllers\\PaymentController')->needs(PaymentGatewayInterface::class)->give(StripePaymentGateway::class) for US users and the same method with PaypalPaymentGateway::class for European users.

Registration Queue
Logic
Queues
Solve
We want to register students for the next semester. All students have a receipt which shows the amount pending for the previous semester. A positive amount (or zero) represents that the student has paid extra fees, and a negative amount represents that they have pending fees to be paid. The students are in a queue for the registration. We want to arrange the students in a way such that the students who have a positive amount on the receipt get registered first as compared to the students who have a negative amount. We are given a queue in the form of an array containing the pending amount.
For example, if the initial queue is [20, 70, -40, 30, -10], then the final queue will be [20, 70, 30, -40, -10]. Note that the sequence of students should not be changed while arranging them unless required to meet the condition.
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Note:
- The first line of the input is the length of the array. The second line contains all the elements of the array.
- The input is already parsed into an array of "strings" and passed to a function. You will need to convert string to integer/number type inside the function.
- You need to "print" the final result (not return it) to pass the test cases.

For the example discussed above, the input will be:
5
20 70 -40 30 -10

Your code needs to print the following to the standard output:
20 70 30 -40 -10

Medium

Visitors Count
Strings
Logic
Solve
A manager hires a staff member to keep a record of the number of men, women, and children visiting the museum daily. The staff will note W if any women visit, M for men, and C for children. You need to write code that takes the string that represents the visits and prints the count of men, woman and children. The sequencing should be in decreasing order.
Example:

Input:
WWMMWWCCC

Expected Output:
4W3C2M

Explanation:
‘W’ has the highest count, then ‘C’, then ‘M’.
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Note:
- The input is already parsed and passed to a function.
- You need to "print" the final result (not return it) to pass the test cases.
- If the input is- “MMW”, then the expected output is "2M1W" since there is no ‘C’.
- If any of them have the same count, the output should follow this order - M, W, C.

Test candidates on core Laravel Hiring Test topics

Working with Routes and Controllers: This skill involves creating and managing routes in a Laravel application, and using controllers to handle these routes. Routes define the URLs that users can access, and controllers contain the logic to process these requests and return the appropriate responses.

Building dynamic Views: This skill focuses on creating dynamic views in Laravel, which involves generating HTML content that can render data from the application's backend. Dynamic views enable the presentation of up-to-date information to users and enhance the user experience.

Working with Blade templates and components: Blade templates are a powerful tool in Laravel for creating reusable and customizable UI components. This skill involves utilizing Blade syntax to create dynamic templates and components, which enables efficient development and maintenance of the application's frontend.

Database migrations and relationships: Database migrations are an essential part of Laravel's database management system. This skill involves managing the structure of the application's database using migration files that define changes to the schema. Additionally, understanding relationships between database tables is crucial for building efficient and scalable applications.

File Handling: This skill covers the ability to work with files in a Laravel application, including uploading, storing, and retrieving files from the file system or cloud storage. File handling is important for various use cases, such as user file uploads, file management, or generating and serving dynamically generated files.

ORM and raw SQL CRUD queries: ORM (Object-Relational Mapping) in Laravel allows developers to interact with the database using object-oriented methods instead of writing raw SQL queries. This skill involves using ORM and understanding the basics of raw SQL queries to perform CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations on the database with ease.

Forms and request validations: This skill involves creating forms in Laravel to gather user input and validating the input data based on defined rules. Proper form handling and validation are essential for ensuring data integrity and security in web applications.

Middleware and Sessions: Middleware in Laravel sits between the web server and the application, providing a convenient way to filter and modify incoming HTTP requests. This skill involves working with middleware to implement security, authentication, and session management, ensuring a robust and secure application.

Identifying and handling exceptions: This skill focuses on identifying and handling exceptions that may occur during the execution of a Laravel application. Understanding how to catch and handle exceptions is crucial for debugging, error management, and providing a seamless user experience.

What is the Laravel Online Test?

The Laravel Online Test is designed to evaluate a candidate's skills in Laravel and PHP. Recruiters and hiring managers use this test to screen developers for roles that require expertise in Laravel.

What topics are evaluated in the Laravel Online Test?

The test covers various Laravel and PHP skills including:

  • Routes and Controllers
  • Dynamic Views
  • Blade templates and components
  • Database migrations and relationships
  • File Handling
  • ORM and raw SQL CRUD queries

Can I test Laravel and SQL together in a test?

Yes, you can test both Laravel and SQL skills in one combined test. It is recommended to get a comprehensive view of a candidate’s backend development skills. For more details, check out our PHP, Laravel & SQL Test.

Can I combine multiple skills into one custom assessment?

Yes, absolutely. Custom assessments are set up based on your job description, and will include questions on all must-have skills you specify. Here's a quick guide on how you can request a custom test.

How do I interpret test scores?

The primary thing to keep in mind is that an assessment is an elimination tool, not a selection tool. A skills assessment is optimized to help you eliminate candidates who are not technically qualified for the role, it is not optimized to help you find the best candidate for the role. So the ideal way to use an assessment is to decide a threshold score (typically 55%, we help you benchmark) and invite all candidates who score above the threshold for the next rounds of interview.

Does every candidate get the same questions?

Yes, it makes it much easier for you to compare candidates. Options for MCQ questions and the order of questions are randomized. We have anti-cheating/ proctoring features in place. In our enterprise plan, we also have the option to create multiple versions of the same assessment with questions of similar difficulty levels.

What is the cost of using this test?

You can check out our pricing plans.
